Hope everyone had a good Christmas and that Santa was good to you.

The new year is almost upon us, so I thought I would start updating my blog (not finished yet) and stop for a few minutes to wish you all a very Happy New Year.

December Updates

Hi Folks

Well, I guess I haven't been sticking to my New Years resolutions very well.  This January, the only resolution I'm making is that there will be NO New Years resolutions.  I'll just  wing it, how does that sound.

Anyway, today I am going to try update for December and see how that goes.

Merry Christmas to everyone, hope your holidays are happy and that we get as little snow as possible.  How is that for a christmas wish?

November is here already.  And this morning is very cold and frosty.  -5 degrees (thats, MINUS) and everything is covered with frost this morning BUT it is very nice out.

Simon Burke Project

Hi all

Thank you so much for your patients.  I will be posting an updated list of donations soon.  We were informed that they will not be able to place the headstone this fall, so we opted to wait until the spring to order it and have it placed in the grave yard.  I will send out an email with the details.  If there are any family members not on my email list, you can email me and I will send you a copy of the updated list and the amount of money we raised.  My email address is on the blog.

October Updates

I am sorry for not posting this message sooner.   RANDY is home and doing well.  He had two blockages in his heart.  The one in the front of the heart required two stints and the one in the back required one stint.  He is home and recovering nicely.  We are all very greatful that it wasn't much worse.

I have posted the updates for October.

A very special Hello to Vickie, Velma and Angelo.  They were home to visit during the month of August.  I had lunch with Vickie, Velma, Gerandine and Ann at the tavern.  We had a very nice lunch and a good family chat, haven't had one of those in a long time.  We will have to do that again next summer.

Randy is doing well in ICU in Antigonish.  He will be sent to Halifax in a few days for tests to see exactly what caused the heart attack and to find out what damage there is to his heart.

He gave us all one hell of a scare.  Here's hoping he doesn't do that again.  Get well soon, little brother.

Catherine Cookson Books

I got a little reminder from Madonna today that I am behind in my posting.  She's keeping a close eye on me so I thought I would publish this little post for you.

As you can see from my book list, I am reading a Catherine Cookson book this month, called "The Blind Miller" first published in 1963.   This is my third Catherine Cookson book and I find them very interesting, sort of like historical romance novels with a little mystery in them.

Catherine Cookson was a British author born in 1906.  She died in 1998, just 16 days before her 92nd birthday.  She published almost 100 books in her career starting with the novel "Kate Hannigan" in 1950.

I would really like to read her Tilly Trotter trilogy, which was published in the early 1980s.  I am keeping an eye out for these books at flea markets and second hand stores, but haven't had any luck yet.  If anyone know where I can find them, please let me know.

Simon Burke



It's almost July so I thought I would post a little message before the July Updates are added to the blog.  My photos today are of Simon Burke who died Jan 6 1954,  Simon is our grandfather and he does not have a headstone on his grave.  As you can see, it's just a wooden cross with no name written on it.  The story of the old headstone is for another post but the reason I am attaching these pictures is because we are in the process of replacing Simon's headstone and we are asking his grandchildren and great grandchildren for some help.  So if you are interested, please email me or get in touch by phone.

Good Morning Folks

A short post to say hello.  I hope all our birthday people this month celebrated with lots of cake and presents.

I am finished Work!!!!!  I worked my last day at Sears on March 24.  Very sad because I really liked the job.  Wanda is working her last week this week.  She is finished working on the 31st, then the Sears store is moving from it's present location to their new location at the Health store and Keltic Gift Shop the first week in April.  Wanda and I both wish the MacDonalds good luck in their new venture.

What a beautiful day.  10 deg outside this afternoon and sunny.  Even the "house flys" are out today.  Maggy was out in the back yard for almost an hour this morning.  I don't like to leave her outside by herself yet because she is still a little to small and it's still a little too cold out there yet.  I would like to have her as a house cat or indoor cat, but she's just a little to anxious to get outside whenever the door opens, so I guess she will be an indoor/outdoor cat once the weather warms up.

March Updates

Good Morning

It looks like March is coming in like a "lamb".  This morning at 7 am it was -18 deg, but what a beautiful day it is.  The sun is shining and there is no wind.

March updates have been added to the blog.  On Saturday, the 3rd, it will be Mark Samson and Alyssa Briand's birthdays and on Sunday, the 4th, it will be Erin Burke's birthday.  So I would like to wish all three a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Better Late Than Never

Good morning

Wow, a week and three days since my last post.  That has to change, LOL.  Anyway, I have posted two photos of the wedding on my February 18 post, as I promised.

In for some SNOW today I see.  Hopefully there won't be to much to shovel when its over.

Tax Clinic training at 1 pm today, unless it is cancelled because of the snow.  The Income Tax Program will be starting the first Monday in March, which in March 5, then will carry on for 9 weeks in total, ending April 30.  The clinics will be held at the Lions Hall from 1 pm to 3 pm each Monday.

Wedding Today

After wishing Ed and Tracy a Happy Anniversary on the 16th, today it is time to congratulate Chris Hayter and Meghan Madden on their Wedding Day.  Congratulations to both of you and to little Izzy also.

It's snowing out there today, but it is beautiful and I hope they can get some pictures taken outside.  What a beautiful backdrop for wedding pictures.  Keep your fingers crossed that we don't get to much wind before the wedding is over.

I won't add "photo memories" today, I will wait for a wedding picture and upload later.

I would like to wish Edward and Tracy MacNeil a very happy 4th anniversary today.  They got married in Sydney by Father Dunphy and it was a bitterly cold day.  If I recall it was about -15 on that day and a little wind blowing. BRRRRRRRRRRRRR !!!!!!!!  Today it's plus 1.

Cold - Cold - Cold

Yikes !!!!

It's cold out there.  -16 at 8 this morning.  Right now it's  almost 10:30 and it's -6 in the sun.  Some snow fell last evening, but not as much as I thought there would be.


I don't have any words of wisdom for you this morning, although I'm sure you can find a few words of your own before the day is finished, LOL.

Nothing exciting going on here this morning.  I spent most of the morning house cleaning, BECAUSE,  Debbie is going back to work tomorrow for two weeks.  Only six working weeks to go.  Now I'm sure you are wondering what I mean by that, well, I will explain.  In the next 12 weeks, I only have 3 more 2 week shifts at Sears and then I will be layed off.  Yes, Wanda and I are finished working for Kim and Philip in April   AND  if no one is interested in taking over the Sears outlet, it will be closed.  Sad, isn't it?  I must say, I really enjoyed the job, especially the two weeks on, two weeks off part of it.  But it's that time of life where I keep thinking I would be better off staying home.  But I will miss the job, the people and getting out of the house.  Although I'm sure I can find something to do with my time.

Good Morning

Friday has rolled around already.  Last night we had an inch or more of snow but nothing major.  Today is sunny and bright, no wind but still very cool out there.  We have been having the greatest of weather for January and February this year.  I'm hoping that the next few months, leading into spring, will be more of the same weather.  Fingers crossed !!
